Karnan had made defamatory and offensive comments against Supreme Court and High Court judges, the wives of judges and posted the video online.
The Madras High Court, in the same case, had come down heavily on the police for not taking actions.
Ex-Justice Karnan, in 2017, became the first sitting high court judge to have been sentenced to jail. While he was a judge of the Calcutta High Court, Karnan was sentenced to six months for contempt of court.
In that particular case, a seven-judge bench of the Supreme Court, then headed by Chief Justice JS Khehar, had ordered West Bengal police to take Karnan in custody. However, he evaded the arrest for weeks after being sentenced to jail until he was tracked down through his mobile phone.
Mr Karnan was also the first high court judge to appear before the supreme court. First appointed as a judge in Madras High Court in 2009, Karnan was transferred to the Calcutta High Court in 2016. He had also written to Prime Minister Modi and then President Pranab Mukherjee, accusing senior judges of corruption.
Mr Karnan, last year, contested the national election as a candidate of the Anti-Corruption Dynamic Party (ACDP) he floated in 2018.
