Former IPS Sanjiv Bhatt detained in 20 year old NDPS case

Ahmedabad | Former IPS Sanjiv Bhatt on Wednesday was arrested by the Gujarat CID related to a 1998 NDPS case.

Bhatt along with 6 other people was taken into custody for framing a false case against a lawyer Sumersingh Rajpurohit in 1998. The Gujarat CID on the directives of the Gujarat High Court is currently investigating the case.

Sanjiv Bhatt while serving as Banaskantha DCP in 1998 had sent a team of five other police personnel including Inspector Vyas to apprehend the lawyer. Bhatt was even accused of framing a fake narcotics case against the Lawyer.

Rajpurohit in his complaint had alleged that he was abducted and implicated in a false NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) case to force his family to vacate rented premises owned by Justice Jain’s sister in Pali. The police had arrested him after finding over one kilo of opium at a hotel in Palanpur, Gujarat.

Sanjiv Bhatt was removed from his service on the ground of “unauthorised absence”. Bhatt is also known for filing an affidavit in the Supreme Court against the Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, alleging his role in the 2002 Gujarat riots.
