New Delhi| On Monday, State-run oil marketing companies (OMCs) hiked the price of petrol and diesel for the ninth consecutive day in order to adjust retail rates in line with costs after an 82-day hiatus from rate revision amidst the coronavirus pandemic.
In the national capital, petrol will now cost Rs 76.26 per litre after an increase by 48 paise and diesel 74.62 per litre after it was raised by 59 paise. On Sunday, petrol and diesel prices in Delhi were raised by 62 paise and 64 paise respectively.
Similarly, on Saturday, petrol and diesel prices were raised by 59 paise and 58 paise per litre respectively in Delhi, as oil companies for seventh consecutive day adjusted retail rates in line with costs since ending an 82-day break in rate revision.
The fuel rates have been increased across the country and vary from state to state depending on the incidence of local sales tax or VAT.

After the government hiked excise duty on fuel to shore up additional finances, the freeze in rates was imposed in mid-March.
Instead of passing on the excise duty hikes to customers, Indian Oil Corp (IOC), Bharat Petroleum Corp Ltd (BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corp Ltd (HPCL) adjusted them against the fall in the retail rates that was warranted because of a decline in international oil prices.
