Full Curfew In The State From 8pm – 7 am for 15 days : Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray

In order to curb rising COVID-19 cases, Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray has announced stricter curbs during his address to the state today. The address comes at a time when the health infrastructure of Maharashtra is almost on the verge of a collapse with weekend lockdowns and night curfews already in place. Vaccine shortages, non-availability of beds in hospitals, lack of Remdesivir and oxygen cylinders are some of the major hurdles the state’s facing currently.

Last week, Thackeray chaired an all-party meeting where he hinted at a stringent lockdown if the current situation didn’t improve. On Sunday, he had a meeting with the state COVID-19 task force and decided that a detailed SOP will be issued after due consultation. Health Minister Rajesh Tope has seconded the need for a 2-3 week lockdown so as to improve the health infrastructure.

Maharashtra has reported the maximum number of active cases in the country (5,64,746) and 58,245 deaths so far. It recorded 60,212 cases on Tuesday. Mumbai recorded 7898 cases on Tuesday with a total of 12,086 deaths so far – the highest in the state. In a slight relief, Mumbai saw a slight decline in cases on Tuesday with around 50000 tests conducted in 24 hrs.
