“Ghazipur Kooch” : How Scenes Changed At Farmers’ Protest After Rakesh Tikait Broke Into Tears

In view of the changed situation on the Ghazipur border, the crowd chanted ‘Ghazipur Cooch’ slogan at Rakesh Tikait’s house in Sisauli village of Muzaffarnagar at 10 pm.

Police was in action for the last 2 days following the violence in the tractor parade of farmers on 26 January. Not only did the file 33 FIRs but also sent lookout notice to farmer leaders. Meanwhile, UP govt ordered police to vacate the borders where farmers have been protesting for the last 2 months.

Due to this, on Thursday it was felt that the farmers movement might end. But, what happened on the Ghazipur border last night seems to intensify the farmers movement further.

After the deployment of heavy police force on the Ghazipur border till 4 pm on Thursday evening, the atmosphere had become such that the farmers would be sent home. But, the police had to return at midnight. Because, the farmers started preparing to intensify the movement. In this connection, a mahapanchayat has been convened at 11 am today in Muzaffarnagar.

Tikait was ready to end the sit-in, threatened by the MLA

Bharatiya Kisan Union spokesperson Rakesh Tikait had agreed to withdraw from the picket during a meeting with officers at 6 pm. But, after some time, the matter took a U-turn with the entry of BJP MLA Nand Kishore.

Nand Kishore along with his supporters reached the Ghazipur. He asked the police to remove the agitators by Sunday, otherwise he and his supporters will remove them. Angered by this, Tikait changed his decision. He said, “BJP MLA has come with the police force to slaughter the farmers. So now we are not going anywhere.”

Rakesh Tikait’s elder brother Naresh Tikait also said that they won’t return until all three black laws are repealed.

Announcement in the village of Tikait at 10 pm- Every farmer will reach Ghazipur

In view of the changed situation on the Ghazipur border, the crowd chanted ‘Ghazipur Cooch’ slogan at Rakesh Tikait’s house in Sisauli village of Muzaffarnagar at 10 pm. Meanwhile, Jat leader and RLD chief Ajit Singh announced support for the movement by calling Rakesh Tikait. RLD leader Jayant Chaudhary also said that he will meet Tikait on Friday. With this, Jat Politics has been entered in the whole matter.

From 11 am, people from Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Ghaziabad, Shamli and Baghpat started traveling for Ghazipur. Apart from UP, many Khaps have also announced in Haryana that they will also reach the Delhi border. Farmers also left on thousand tractors from Bhiwani, Haryana. Seeing the worsening of the situation in both the states, the police force waiting for orders for action on the Ghazipur border started retreating. Some of the policemen told media persons that they were going back as their shift had ended.
