Heavy Rain Lashes Mumbai; Three, including 2 kids, electrocuted

Three people, including two kids, died of electric shock in two separate incidents during the first spell of pre-monsoon rain in Mumbai on Saturday.

While the onset of the monsoons in Mumbai was said to be from June 10, the Indian Meteorological Department had hinted at an early arrival. Thunderstorm and strong winds accompanied rainfall in many areas in what was among the first showers of this monsoon.
In the first incident, which took place around 8.20pm, one Anil Yadav and Zara Yunus Khan (9) were declared brought dead at Agarwal hospital in Mulund where they had been rushed. In another incident in Bhandup, two people were injured due to electric shock and were sent to a private hospital.
Thunderstorm and strong winds also accompanied rainfall in many areas of Thane, Palghar, Raigad and Ratnagiri after dense clouds formed since late afternoon. Monsoon rains hit the southern state of Kerala a few days earlier than normal on Tuesday, the country’s weather office said.
