“Hum Do, Humare Do”: Reliance, Adani Ends At Narendra Modi Stadium Spark Row

Sitaram Yechury, using the recent trending meme template, said: “Yeh Narendra Modi Stadium hai, yeh iske do Ends hain…aur yeh cronies ki pawri ho rahi hai.”

After the Motera Stadium in Ahmedabad was renamed to Narendra Modi Stadium, and its pavilion ends were named after corporate giants– Reliance and Adani– many opposition leaders and social media users called out the move in the wake of the “crony capitalism” debate stirred by the farmers’ protest.

Over the last few years, the Sardar Patel Cricket Stadium was reconstructed. It was inaugurated by India’s President Ram Nath Kovind on Wednesday, 24 February. However, the announcement was made during the inauguration that the stadium has now been named after Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Though, the new arena, which includes training facilities for other sports, is called the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Sports Enclave.

After it became clear that the two bowling ends at the Narendra Modi stadiums would be called ‘Reliance End’ and ‘Adani End’, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was among the people who reacted to the retitling.

Rahul Gandhi, in a jibe at the Prime Minister, said: “Beautiful how the truth reveals itself. Narendra Modi stadium – Adani end – Reliance end. With Jay Shah presiding. #HumDoHumareDo”

Earlier during his address in Parliament, Rahul Gandhi had recalled the family planning slogan of “Hum Do, Humare Do” to target the Modi government over the corporatization of agriculture.

Congress’ National Spokesperson Pawan Khera also took to Twitter and said: “The Narendra Modi Stadium, inaugurated by Amit Shah, has an ‘Adani End’ and a ‘Reliance End’. Friends, this stadium has been dedicated to “Hum Do, Humare Do”.

CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury, using the recent trending meme template, said: “Yeh Narendra Modi Stadium hai, yeh iske do Ends hain…aur yeh cronies ki pawri ho rahi hai.” (This is Narendra Modi Stadium, these are two ends of the stadium, and cronies are celebrating here).
