Despite all the criticism for its vaccination policy, Amit Shah defended the same and said India had set a “world record” in fastest vaccination, and that the PM aimed to cover maximum people in minimum time.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday said that India “controlled” the second wave of the COVID-19 “in a very short time”, crediting and praising the success of the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Virtually inaugurating nine oxygen plants set up by an organization in Gujarat, Shah said “When the second wave came and the virus mutated, started spreading rapidly — not just spreading rapidly but also affecting people fast and in a much worse manner — still, in a short time, controlling it and ensuring it declines, is a collective success for us.” quoted the Indian Express
While elucidating on the sharp increase in demand for oxygen, Shah said that to tackle a ten-fold increase from 1000MT to 10000MT of oxygen, both the Centre and States “rose to the challenge” and “started our fight against it”
“Under normal circumstances, the country used to produce about 1000 MT of oxygen. Within a month, the demand increased to 10,000 MT. It was a huge challenge to meet this 10-fold increase in demand, but under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Centre and State rose to the challenge and started our fight against this,” he said.
He also said that after the first wave, 162 PSA plants were approved from the PM CARES fund by the Prime Minister, along with an additional 1,051 plants.
“Along with this, 100 more PSA plants were also initiated by other ministries. In the coming days, work to set up 300 more will also be started,” he said.
Amit Shah also lauded efforts by the armed forces, Railways and scientists.

“Thanks to their efforts, this pandemic is receding slowly and demand for oxygen has come down as well. The number of recoveries is higher than new cases,” the Home Minister said.
Despite all the criticism for its vaccination policy, Amit Shah defended the same and said India had set a “world record” in fastest vaccination, and that the PM aimed to cover maximum people in minimum time.
“More than 21 crore Indians have been vaccinated. This is a record in the world for the fastest vaccination. In the coming days we will make it faster. PM Modi wishes that in minimum time the huge population of the country should be covered with vaccination protection and I am confident with his previous experience he will achieve this too,” he said.
India second wave continues to recede as it recorded 1,32,364 cases and 2713 deaths and 28,75,286 vaccine doses administered in the last 24 hours.
