India Records Over 70,000 Cases In Last 15 days, COVID-19 Infections Now At 1.45 Lakh

India overtook Iran & China to become the 10th worst affected nation in the world with over 1.5 lakh COVID-19 infections.

New Delhi| The total cases in India surged to 145,380 including over 60,000 cured/discharged or migrated and 4,167 deaths amid lockdown to curb the spread of COVID-19.

In the past 24 hours, 146 casualties were recorded.

6,500 cases new cases of COVID-19 were recorded in the last 24 hours.

Maharashtra, the worst affected state by the virus, recorded 52,667 cases and over 1,500 deaths. the state recorded over 3,000 cases in the last 24 hours.

Of these, Mumbai alone reported 31,972 cases along with over 1000 deaths.

Follows Tamil Nadu as it witnessed the sharpest hike in fresh cases this week. Total cases in the state surge to 17,082.

Gujarat with over 14,460 cases of highly infectious coronavirus, third highest in the country.

Delhi recorded over 14,000 COVID-19 cases.

Tiny Himalayan state of Sikkim and Nagaland registered their first COVID-19 cases.

Infections are now doubling every 13.1 days if data of the past seven days are considered.

Across the country, at least 60,490 patients have cured so far the recovery rate stood at 41.6%.

Currently, there are over 80,722 active COVID-19 patients in the country.

India is the 10th worst-affected country in terms of the total number of COVID-19 cases, overtaking China and Iran. However, its tally of active cases exceeds those of some top-ten countries including Spain, Italy, Germany, Turkey and Iran.

A total of 280 government laboratories in the country is conducting tests for the novel coronavirus, the Indian Council of Medical Research has said. ICMR also issued a list of 90 private labs which will conduct the testing.

213 countries or territories have been affected by the highly contagious virus.

New cases fell to zero in China on Saturday.

Globally, the total number of COVID-19 cases nears 5,500,000 while the death toll crossed 346,000, as per the latest data from Johns Hopkins University.

The United States, the worst affected country in the world, recorded over 1.6 Million cases of COVID-19 and nearly 1,00,000 lakh deaths, as per Johns Hopkins University data.
