India-Seychelles security details leaked on internet cause panic

It is suspected that the details of security pact have been leaked from Seychelles this week.

 

The details of security pact signed between India and Seychelles have leaked online, creating panick in the Indian government. A video allegedly of India-Seychelles security agreement has surfaced on video sharing site YouTube which includes the details such as facilities, location etc. The video even includes maps of the proposed security facilities among other leaked information.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had visited Seychelles, an island situated in Indian Ocean in 2015 where several security agreements were signed between the two countries. This security pact is crucial maritime strategy for India to counter China’s endeavours in Indian Ocean.

In January 2018, the outgoing Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar had also visited the island country to renegotiate certain deals in the pact. The revised pact is said to be more detailed than the 2015 pact.

According to sorces, the Seychelles side had some reservations regarding the pact, thus after renegotiation their concerns have been accommodated.
However, Indian government hasn’t given any statement refuting or confirming the text doing rounds on internet.

It is suspected that the details of security pact have been leaked from Seychelles this week. Refuting the security deal, the country’s President Danny Faure as quoted by a News Agency on Tuesday addressed the assembly and said that no Land on Assumption has been sold or leased to the Indian government.
