India Today Named In TRP Racket FIR, Mumbai Police Says “Thorough Investigation” Being Done

However, Mumbai Police has said that they have found no evidence yet against India Today in the TRP manipulation racket busted on Thursday.

The FIR filed by Hansa Research, the company hired by BARC to install the people-meters in households to measure TRPs, has also named India Today in its FIR. However, Mumbai Police has said that they have found no evidence yet against the channel in the TRP manipulation racket busted on Thursday. Milind Bharambe, the joint commissioner of police said that India Today was named in the FIR but neither the accused nor the witnesses corroborated the claim.

“In the FIR, the name of India Today is mentioned, however, it is not substantiated by any of the accused or witnesses. On the contrary, the accused and witnesses are specifically mentioning the names of Republic TV, Fakt Marathi and Box Cinema. Thorough investigations are going on.” Mr Bharambe told India Today.

Earlier, Arnab Goswami of Republic had dragged India the Arun Poorie owned channel’s name in the matter as he claimed that it was India Today named in the FIR and not Republic.

Called the investigation malafide and vendetta-driven, Goswami had it was because of his open stance against the Mumbai Police and the Maharashtra government led by Uddhav Thackeray. The anchor also said that he will sue the Mumbai Police commissioner Param Bir Singh for defamation.

Mumbai Police and Arnab Goswami have been in running feud with each other. Earlier, the Mumbai police had said that Republic ran fake news and propaganda in the Sushant Singh Rajput case, publicising unverified information and giving space to YouTube conspiracy theorists.
