J&K Army helicopter crash

Last month two pilots died when an Army helicopter crash-landed in a dense forested area in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district on Tuesday, officials said. According to the police excessive fog in the area had reduced visibility in the area, which may have led to the accident. The pilots were evacuated, both pilot and co-pilot were injured.

“Today, during a training sortie in the Patnitop area, the Indian Army Cheetah Helicopter crash-landed in the Shiv Garh Dhar area in Udhampur district,” said the Army.

DIG Udhampur Suleman Chowdhry said that the police received information and dispatched teams towards the spot in Shiv Garh Dhar. He added that due to the presence of excess fog in the area, visibility was low.

The officer said the chopper either crashed or crash-landed on a hill. “Search parties have been rushed to the area, but it will take around one and a half hour to reach there by foot. Dense fog in the area is making it difficult for the searchers to pin point exact location,” he added.

Army tweeted condolences,” #LtGenYKJoshi, #ArmyCdrNC and all ranks #salute the bravehearts Major Rohit Kumar & Major Anuj Rajput who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty on 21 Sept 2021 at #Patnitop and offer deepest condolences to their families.”
