India’s Death Toll Crosses 2000-Mark, Cases Nears To 63,000-Mark

COVID-19 related deaths in India today surged past 2,000-mark amid national lockdown alarming the governments across the country.

New Delhi| The total cases in India surged to 62,939 including over 19,000 cured/discharged or migrated and 2,109 deaths amid lockdown to curb the spread of COVID-19.

In the past 24 hours, 128 casualties were recorded.

A staggering 3,277 new cases of COVID-19 were recorded in the last 24 hours.

The total number of cases in Maharashtra– the worst affected state by the virus, moved past 20,228 with over 700 deaths.

Mumbai, the financial capital of the country, figures climbed above 10,000-mark.

Follows Gujarat with 7,796 cases of highly infectious coronavirus, second highest in the country.

Tamil Nadu witnessed the sharpest hike in fresh cases this week. Total cases in the state are 6,535.

Across the country, at least 19,357 patients have cured so far the recovery rate stood at 28.83%.

A total of 280 government laboratories in the country is conducting tests for the novel coronavirus, the Indian Council of Medical Research has said. ICMR also issued a list of 90 private labs which will conduct the testing.

Globally, the total number of COVID-19 cases topped 4,000,000 while the death toll crossed 280,000, as per the latest data from Johns Hopkins University.

The United States has entered into a grim situation as it recorded its one-millionth case of COVID-19, about one-third of the entire world’s caseload, as per Johns Hopkins University data.
