Internet Services Snapped Again In Kashmir Ahead Of Afzal Guru’s Death Anniversary

Authorities on Sunday snapped internet services in Kashmir as a precautionary measure to prevent any disturbance on the 7th death anniversary of Afzal Guru.

Kashmir| A bandh has also been called by the Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) on the death anniversary of Afzal Guru and also on February 11, which is the death anniversary of Maqbool Bhat — founder of the organisation National Liberation Front (NLF).

Maqbool Bhat was a Kashmiri separatist and founder of the organisation National Liberation Front. He was hanged in 1984 and is buried inside Tihar jail.

Afzal Guru was hanged in 2013 inside Tihar jail for his role in the Parliament attack in December 2001.

The mobile internet services were suspended early in the morning as the authorities perceived disturbance in the valley in view of the bandh call given by separatist outfits, the officials said.

Two journalists were called for questioning by Jammu and Kashmir police after reporting on a Kashmir Valley shutdown call issued by banned separatist outfit JKLF to mark the hanging of Afzal Guru and Maqbool Bhat. The police, who have also filed an FIR (first information report) against the Jammu-Kashmir Liberation Front, said the journalists were only questioned and not detained.

According to India today reports, normal life has been thrown out of gear as shops and businesses remained closed in Srinagar. Public transport is also off roads.

J&K Police has filed an FIR against the JKLF leaders who had called for a strike call.

There have been no reports of any untoward incident from anywhere in the valley so far, the officials added.
