Internet Services Snapped In Parts Of Delhi, Adjoining Areas Amid Violent Clashes

“As per government instructions, Internet services have been stopped in your area till further notice,” the text message read.

According to news agency ANI, internet services have been temporarily suspended in some parts of Delhi amid clashes between the police and section of protesting farmers, who veered off the permitted course for the planned tractor march and reached inside national capital.

People residing in these areas uploaded screenshots on social media platforms of a text message they received on their mobile phones. “As per government instructions, Internet services have been stopped in your area till further notice,” the text message read.

News agency ANI quoted Union Home Ministry sources as saying that the Internet has been shut at areas near the Singhu border – the epicentre of farmers’ protest against the three agriculture laws, Ghazipur, Tikri, Mukarba Chowk, Nangloi of the national capital till 23:59 hrs on January 26.

Earlier in the day, deviating from pre-designated routes for the parade, a group of protesting farmers reached Red Fort on tractors. A protestor hoisted a flag from the ramparts of the Red Fort.

Clashes were reported from the ITO area of Delhi, where farmers and police tried overpowering each other, with police using lathi charge to control the crowd. A DTC bus was reportedly vandalised by protesting farmers at ITO in central Delhi.

Protesters broke barricade, attacked police personnel and vandalised police vehicle at ITO in central Delhi, according to news agency ANI.

Delhi Police resorted to lathi charge at Chintamani Chowk in Shahdara near Ghazipur border, with farmers riding tractors pushed through barricades.

Police also used tear gas on groups of farmers as they tried to break barricades, cemented barriers with tractors at Delhi’s Mukarba Chowk.
