Jammu and Kashmir Governor N.N Vohra calls for emergency floods management meeting

Srinagar | Jammu and Kashmir Governor N.N Vohra on Saturday called for an emergency meeting at his residence to discuss the rising flood like situation in Kashmir after continuous rainfall in the last two days.

Due to constant heavy rainfall from the last two days in Kashmir valley, the first batch of pilgrims on Amarnath Yatra was also halted at Baltal on Thursday. Incessant rain in the Baltal Sonamarg area in Ganderbal district and Nunwan Pahalgam area in Anantnag district has made the roads slippery and unsafe.

The local officials have released a flood alert after the overflowing of the Darhali river in Rajouri. Meanwhile, the Srinagar Police announced that all schools in Kashmir division will remain closed as a precautionary measure.

Srinagar Deputy Commissioner Syed Abid Shah told media, “In view of the incessant rains, inclement weather and as a precautionary measure all schools in Kashmir division to remain closed today.”
