Judges disappointed with centre about changing seniority of Justice KM Joseph

A number of judges of the Supreme Court seemed to be quite disappointed for changing the seniority of Justice KM Joseph in his notification of appointment, which was cleared by the government last week after much of running back and forth.

As per one of the judges they are planning to meet Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra and lodge an official complaint to the centre about the intervention.

The government notification puts Justice Joseph below two judges namely Justices Indira Banerjee and Vineet Saran.

One of the judges told a daily, “It is a blatant interference by the government”.

The judge who prefers it to be unnamed, said, “Justice Joseph’s name was sent first and reiterated by the collegium and his name should have been first in the appointment notification. But his name is the third, making him junior to the other two judges”.

The names of Justices Indira Banerjee and Vineet Saran were actually recommended after Justice Joseph, he added.
