Kochi airport suspends operations till Sunday afternoon

Kochi | The Cochin International airport has suspended all its operations till Sunday 3 PM as the runways are waterlogged after incessant rains.

“Kochi Airport closes operations till 1500 hrs of Sunday (11/08/2019),” a statement issued by the Airport said.

A Cochin International Airport Ltd (CIAL) spokesman said the runway area of the airport is water logged due to the flood.

Floodwaters inundated the apron area (parking area) of the building as well.

Flight operations were suspended after a rise in water levels in Periyar river and a canal adjacent to the airport.

Earlier on Thursday, the CIAL had announced the suspension of flight operations till 9 am on Friday, as a precautionary measure which predicted high rainfall in the area.

Heavy rains have been creating a major inconvenience for the people of Kerala for the past few days and claiming twenty lives on Thursday.
