Madhya Pradesh vaccination error: Dead people vaccinated on PM’s Birthday

Bhopal: On Wednesday NDTV reported about the Covid-19 vaccination errors in Madhya Pradesh. According to the report there is a twist in number of vaccinations received on September 17, when the country achieved the 2.5 crore vaccination in a day milestone.

Vaccinations certificate were issued to many who haven’t had the vaccine shot, “”Dear Vidya Sharma, you have successfully been vaccinated with your 2nd dose with Covishield on 17th September”, a resident of Madhya Pradesh, Ashutosh Sharma received the message on behalf of his mother.

The shocking thing is that Ashutosh’s mother is died four months ago. Mr. Sharma then downloaded and saved the certificate.

“I have her death certificate in one hand and her vaccination certificate in another…I think a lot of pressure is being put on the officials, to increase the numbers,” Mr Sharma told NDTV.

Another similar message was received by Pinky Verma, a resident of Aagar, Madhya Pradesh. The message said that she had been vaccinated at a centre in Jhalawar, Rajasthan. Here the interesting thing was Pinky was due her second dose but she didn’t take the shot as she was sick, “”I got the first dose on June 8. The second was due on September 7, but I was unwell so missed it. I think they are intentionally doing this to increase the figures,” Ms Verma said.

One of the problems these people are facing is that they are due their second dose but the certification is issued.

Bhopal’s Leela Sutar’s was another such case. The 54-year-old got her first dose of vaccine on March 25, then got infected and ended up missing her second.

“If I go out somewhere, I will have to face trouble. What should I do?” she now asks.

The government says that it’s a clerical error, “There may be one or two cases, it will be investigated if there is any clerical error,” said Vishwas Sarang, the Madhya Pradesh Medical Education Minister.

Massive vaccination milestone was achieved on PM Narendra Modi’s 71st birth anniversary, when the country recorded more than 2.5 crore vaccination all over the country, one of the huge one day vaccination record until today.

This is the second time that the government has made human errors, on June 21, when the new phase of the Covid vaccination drive began with free vaccines for all Indians above 18, Madhya Pradesh said it created a record of administering 1.7 million doses.

But soon complaints aroused as many of those with their mobile numbers registered in Tamil Nadu, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh were shown among the beneficiaries. There were reports of numerous people, who did not get vaccinated, getting messages on their mobile phones that they have received their jabs.

In some cases, vaccination registrations were done with similar identity documents. There were also complaints of one person getting several messages confirming vaccinations. In Bhopal, a 13-year-old boy, who is not eligible for vaccination, was shown among those vaccinated as per a message sent on his father’s phone.
