Maharashtra On Alert As 66 Delta Plus Variant Cases Reported In The State

The highest number of 13 Delta Plus cases have been reported from Jalgaon in northern Maharashtra. Meanwhile, 12 cases have been reported from Ratnagiri and 11 from Mumbai.

 

In a worrying stats, 66 patients have been found in Maharashtra hinfected with the delta variant of coronavirus so far and five of them have died. Some of these 66 patients had taken both doses of the vaccine. The state health department gave this information on Friday. These cases came up in the genome sequencing investigation of samples taken from patients from different parts of the state. The first case of death of a 63-year-old woman has come to light in Mumbai due to the infection of Delta Plus Variant on Friday. The woman tested positive for Covid-19 on July 21 and succumbed to the virus on July 27.

An official of Brihanmumbai Municipal corporation (BMC) said that the elderly woman, who died in the last week of July was given both doses of vaccine. BMC officials said at least two other people who had been in close contact with the woman after her death had also been infected with the virus. The Delta plus variant of the virus is known to be highly contagious.

The rest of the cases are from other districts. What is more concerning is the people are getting infected with the Delta plus variant even after taking both the doses of vaccine.
