Mallikarjun Kharge, HD Deve Gowda Elected Unopposed To Rajya Sabha From Karnataka

In March, 37 candidates from 10 states were elected unopposed. Elections will now be held for the remaining 18 Rajya Sabha seats.

 

New Delhi| The election process is going on in 24 seats of Rajya Sabha. On Friday, members were elected on 4 seats in Karnataka and one seat in Arunachal Pradesh without any opposition. Former Prime Minister and JDS leader HD Deve Gowda, Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge, BJP leader Ashok Gasti and Iranna Kadadi were elected unopposed from Karnataka.

The nomination of Independent candidate Sangamesh Chikknaragunda was rejected. The four Rajya Sabha seats in Karnataka will be vacant on 25 June. June 12 was the last date for withdrawal of nominations.

Nabam Rabia elected in Arunachal

Nabam Rabia has been elected for the only seat of Rajya Sabha from Arunachal Pradesh. No nomination was filed against him. Hence he was declared the winner unopposed. He has previously been a member of the Rajya Sabha on behalf of the Congress from 1996 to 2002 and from 2002 to 2008.

 

Congress MLA resort in Gujarat and Rajasthan

On the other hand, before the Rajya Sabha elections in Gujarat and Rajasthan, the Congress is constantly accusing the BJP of buying or luring the MLAs. Recently, three Congress MLAs in Gujarat resigned. In both states, Congress has shifted its MLAs in hotels and resorts. On Friday, the Gujarat Congress complained to the Election Commission. The party alleges that the BJP is misusing government machinery in elections.

 

Elections are to be held for 19 seats on June 19

Elections will be held on June 19 for the 19 seats of Rajya Sabha. In April, 55 seats of Rajya Sabha were vacant from 17 states. For this, the Election Commission announced the election dates in February. In March, 37 candidates from 10 states were elected unopposed. Elections will now be held for the remaining 18 Rajya Sabha seats. These include 4 seats each in Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat, 3 each in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, 2 seats in Jharkhand, one each in Manipur and Meghalaya. At the same time, 4 seats in Karnataka, 1-1 seats in Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram will be vacant in June-July.
