Patna | Amid the rising death toll in Bihar due to suspected AES in Muzaffarpur, a child died today during the visit of Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan in SKMC Hospital.
According to the family, a five-year-old child died in front of the Union Minister who visited the hospital to review the situation of dying children in the state. Till now more than 84 children have died in Bihar due to Acute Encephalitis Syndrome since June 1.
However, the officials claim that a majority of the victims, most of whom were below 10 years of age, had fallen prey to hypoglycemia, a condition caused by a very low level of blood sugar and electrolyte imbalance.
Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan is scheduled to visit Muzaffarpur on Sunday to take stock of the situation and held meetings with doctors and officials of both the central and state governments. Vardhan also held a review meeting with the officials of the Health and other departments concerned of the state government in Patna.
Speaking to reporters after the review meeting, Harsh Vardhan said, he talked to “every concerned individual about this issue”. “Despite all problems and considering the seriousness of this disease, I appreciate the efforts put in by the doctors to ensure efficient treatment to everyone,” he added.
