No Decision On Resuming Flight Operations: Centre After Air India Begins Booking

On Saturday, Air India declared it has resumed bookings on select domestic and international routes from May 4 which later was off by the Centre.

New Delhi| On Saturday, Civil Aviation Minister of India Hardeep Singh Puri said that airlines are recommended to resume bookings only after the Centre takes a decision on starting domestic and international commercial passenger flight services.

Puri wrote on Twitter: “The Ministry of Civil Aviation clarifies that so far no decision has been taken to open domestic or international operations.”

This comes after Air India said it has started bookings on select domestic flights from May 4 and on select international flights from June 1.

Earlier, IndiGo had declared that it would start flying in a phased method from May 4.

The first phase of the lockdown imposed in the country in view of the COVID-19 pandemic was from March 25 to April 14. The second phase started on April 15 and will end on May 3.

All domestic and international commercial passenger flight operations have been halted during the lockdown period.

Crossing the 15,000-mark on Sunday, India now has total 15,712 COVID-19 Cases, including 507 casualties and 2,230 recoveries.

The rate stood at 14.19 per cent this morning, an improvement from 13.85 per cent on Saturday.

Maharashtra continues to be the worst-affected state in the country with over 3,600 COVID-19 cases.
