‘No One To Sleep Hungry In Delhi’: Arvind Kejriwal, Turns Govt Schools into Community Kitchen

The Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal revealed that he had also asked all MLAs from the Aam Aadmi Party to help the poor and the needy with their efforts.

New Delhi| Amid reports of hundreds of people not having access to food during the nationwide lockdown, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday said lunch and dinner would be served to the needy in 325 schools in Delhi.

Kejriwal said that the government will be able to serve about four lakh people by Saturday.

“We will feed 4 lakh people in Delhi from tomorrow. No one will sleep hungry in our Delhi,” he said.

In his public address, Kejriwal said that till Thursday, the Aam Aadmi Party government was serving 20,0000 people daily across 224-night shelters in the national capital.

“But there were reports that people were left hungry. Across the city, food arrangements have been made in 325 schools. About 500 people can have lunch and dinner in these schools daily,” Kejriwal said.

Due to coronavirus scare, the country is under lockdown till April 14 and all schools closed.

Saying that so far 39 cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in Delhi, the CM stated, “Delhi government is fully prepared to tackle the situation if coronavirus cases increase.”

He asked people to maintain ‘ social distancing’ as a measure to prevent the spread of the virus.

He also added that a five-member doctors’ panel, formed to suggest a plan to deal with a huge number of COVID-19 patients, has submitted its report to the government.

Addressing the issue of migrant workers who have been hit hard by the lockdown, Kejriwal said, “I want to assure the CMs of all other states, we are taking care of everyone living in Delhi. We will try to extend all possible help to the migrants living in the National Capital.”

The Delhi Chief Minister thanked various organisations including ISKCON, Radhaswamy Satsang and several Gurudwaras in Delhi for their sterling role in this time of a national crisis. Kejriwal told media persons that in this process of providing food to the poor, social distancing was being maintained.

Arvind Kejriwal also said people from various states who were living in Delhi would be taken care of by the state government. He told media persons that he had received calls from several chief ministers including the chief minister of Jharkhand, Hemant Soren. Kejriwal reassured Soren and other chief ministers that all those living in Delhi would be taken care of by his government.

The Delhi Chief Minister announced that the AAP government had formed a team of five doctors to tackle the COVID19 crisis in three different scenarios—with 100, 500 and 1000 cases per day. This includes hospitals ICU facilities, ventilators, ambulances, doctors, nurses and all other aspects of healthcare in various scenarios, he said.
