One Militant Killed In J&K In Encounter With Security Forces

Srinagar: In security forces encounter, an unidentified militant was killed in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Friday, police said. The forces have launched cordon-and-search operation at Mumanhal village of the Arwani area in the district after inputs were received about the presence of militants there, a police official said.

The search operation turned into an encounter after militants opened fire on the security personnel, who retaliated.

An ultra had been killed, and as per last reports, the operation is going on, the official said, adding the identity and group affiliation of the slain militant are not yet known.

“(An) encounter has started at Harwan area of Srinagar. Police and security forces are on the job. Further details shall follow,” J-K Police tweeted. In a subsequent tweet, Police said one militant was killed in the shootout. “SrinagarEncounterUpdate: 01 unidentified terrorist killed. Search going on. Further details shall follow,” Police said.
