UP Police and the district administration cremated the body of Hathras gangrape victim at 3 AM allegedly against the wishes of the family. Reportedly, no family member was present when the victim was cremated in unusual haste.

Injustice’ and ‘Gross Human Rights Violation’ are writ large in the Hathras gangrape case that has shaken the entire country. Adding to the plight of the already grieving family, the 20-year-old Dalit woman’s body who was gang-raped and murdered by four alleged upper caste men was cremated by the cops in the dead of the night. On Wednesday, the UP Police and the district administration cremated the body of Hathras gangrape victim at 3 AM allegedly against the wishes of the family. Reportedly, no family member was present when the victim was cremated in unusual haste.

Opposition parties have come together to condemn the unfortunate incident, demanding answers from the Uttar Pradesh CM Adityanath.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, sharing a video of UP Police’s reluctance of the admission of the victim’s funeral in the dead of the night, said: “A daughter of India is raped, facts are suppressed and in the end the right of funeral is also taken away from her family. It is abusive and unjust.”

Gandhi also stressed that this is a move by the government to suppress the Dalit voice and show them their place.

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal also condemned the incident. “The victim of Hathras was raped by the first few monsters and then the whole system was raped yesterday. The whole episode is very painful”, he said.

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief and former CM of UP, Mayawati questioned the attitude of UP police. Mayawati said: “The funeral of Hathras gangrape Dalit victim by the UP police by not handing over the body to her family and performing the last rites at midnight in the family’s absence only creates a lot of doubt and resentment. The BSP strongly condemns such a wrong attitude of the police.”

“It would be better if the Honorable Supreme Court takes appropriate action by taking cognisance of this serious case on its own, otherwise the attitude of the UP government and the police in this heinous case does not seem to show that even after the death of the gang-rape victim, his family would get justice and the guilty will be punished,” she added.

Stating that the country has hit a new low, TMC MP Mahua Moitra targeted PM Modi and UP CM Adityanath.

“Cremating Hathras rape victim in the dead of the night without informing the family. Modi’s New India. Yogi’s New Laws. India’s New Low,” Moitra wrote.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called for the “strictest action against the accused” in the gang-rape of 20 years old Dalit woman from Hathras of Uttar Pradesh, CM Adityanath said as his government faces heavy flak for negligence in this case. The chief minister added that a three-member panel has been set up to investigate the crime and it will submit a report in seven days.

The UP CM has also asked for the trial to be conducted in a fast-track court
