Oxford-AstraZeneca Vaccine Ineffective On New Coronavirus Variant, South Africa May Stop Supply

South African Health Minister Jweli Makhis in a press conference said that South Africa has received one million doses from AstraZeneca.

 

A study about Oxford-AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine has shown that it may not be very effective on the new strains of Coronavirus. Scientists have described the vaccine as ‘disappointing’ in the report. After this, the South African government has stopped the supply of the vaccine.

Health Minister Jweli Makhis in a press conference said that South Africa has received one million doses from AstraZeneca. The process of vaccination has also started, but after the study conducted by a group of scientists, further supplies have been put on hold. Jweli reported that 90% of the cases in South Africa are of the new strain of Coronavirus.

Study was done on two thousand people

Scientists tested the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine on two thousand people. It was found that this vaccine modestly protects against new strains. The deaths from corona also do not decrease. The Health Minister said that he is currently in contact with scientists. The decision will be taken after getting a further report.

More than 1 lakh deaths in America in 2021

As early as 2021 in the US, more than 1 lakh deaths occurred due to Coronavirus. In January, more than 95000 people lost their lives due to infection. In these 7 days of February, more than 20000 deaths have taken place. So far, 4,74,933 people have lost their lives. Everyday 1500 to 2200 people are dying here.
