OYO Cuts Indian Employees Pay As Lockdown Brings Travel to a Halt

The move comes soon after thousands of international employees were furloughed by OYO earlier in April after the coronavirus outbreak.

New Delhi| The salaries of all OYO Hotels and Homes employees have been cut by 25% for four months starting April and some of the employees have also been sent on leave with limited benefits, as per Reuters.

The move comes soon after thousands of international employees were furloughed by OYO earlier in April after the COVID-19 pandemic brought global travel to a halt, wreaking plunder in the hospitality sector.

On Wednesday, the company’s Chief Executive Rohit Kapoor said in a note: “Our company is taking a difficult but necessary step for India, whereby we are asking all OYOprenuers to accept a reduction in their fixed compensation by 25 per cent.”

Rohit Kapoor said that some employees will also be put on leave with limited benefits from May 4 and until August.

The hotel chain giant did not promptly respond to a request for comment.

The nationwide lockdown that was imposed on 24th March is supposed to end on 3rd May according to the Central government’s last update.
