Pakistan left red-faced, Imran Khan shares fake video from Bangladesh as Indian Police ‘Pogrom’ against UP Muslims

Several users slammed him for sharing a fake video and trying to spark disharmony in India. After receiving widespread backlash, Imran Khan had to delete the tweet.

 

New Delhi| Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday caused the latest embarrassment for the country. He shared a video on his official Twitter handle claiming that it is of Indian Police “Pogrom” of Muslims in Uttar Pradesh. However, several users pointed out that the police shown in the video is not from India but from its neighbouring country Bangladesh.

Several users slammed him for sharing a fake video and trying to spark disharmony in India. After receiving widespread backlash, Imran Khan had to delete the tweet out of embarrassment. The police seen in the video is Bangladesh police and the video was seven years old.

Uttar Pradesh Police too, replied saying that the video is not from UP. It tweeted, “This is not from UP, but from a May 2013 incident in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The RAB (Rapid Action Battalion, a unit of the Bangladesh Police) written on the vests at 0:21s, 1:27s or the Bengali spoken, would help you be better informed.”

After the fake video fiasco, India’s Permanent Representative in the United Nations Syed Akbaruddin targeted Pakistan. He said that this is done repeatedly on behalf of Pakistan. Old habits never go away.

Meanwhile, Foreign Ministry spokesman Raveesh Kumar slamming Imran Khan said, “Tweet fake news. Get caught. Delete the video. Do the same thing again.”

Where was the Video From?

The video by which Imran was claiming police brutality in UP was made in 2013. Bangladesh’s Rapid Action Battalion of Anti-Terrorist Squad can be seen. The video was made while the police were taking action against the protesters in Dhaka. Demonstrators in Dhaka were protesting against Ishainda Law. During this time, there was a clash with the police.
