Passenger Flying From Chennai To Coimbatore Tests Positive For COVID-19

This is the first known case of a passenger testing positive for COVID-19 after the domestic flight services resumed on Monday.

Coimbatore| On Tuesday, IndiGo grounded the crew of Chennai-Coimbatore flight after a passenger travelling on-board was ascertained to be COVID-19 positive.

The passengers on the flight have been notified, the airlines said.

The airline in a statement said: “We received confirmation from the Coimbatore airport doctor that a passenger who travelled on 6E 381 from Chennai to Coimbatore on 25th May evening, has tested positive for Covid-19.”

IndiGo said in a statement that as a precautionary measure, the crew members that operated on the flight have been grounded for 14 days.

On Monday, India reopened air travel across the nation after suspending the flight services for two months as a measure to curb the spread of COVID-19. Many states have declared varied quarantine and self-isolation rules for the passengers coming in.

The total cases in India surged to 151,767 including over 64,000 cured/discharged or migrated and 4,337 deaths amid lockdown to curb the spread of novel coronavirus.

In the past 24 hours, 170 casualties were recorded. 6,387 cases new cases of coronavirus were recorded in the last 24 hours.

India is the 10th worst-affected country in terms of the total number of COVID-19 cases, overtaking China and Iran.
