Patiala House Court grants bail to Priya Ramani in MJ Akbar defamation case

New Delhi | Delhi’s Patiala House Court on Monday granted bail to Journalist Priya Ramani in connection with a criminal defamation case filed by former Union Minister MJ Akbar.

Ramani who appeared before the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate in a criminal defamation case filed by MJ Akba was granted bail for a personal bond of Rs 10,000. Various senior journalist including Nidhi Razdan, Rajdeep Sardesai, Suhasini Haider were present during the hearing. The next hearing for the case is scheduled for April 10.

Responding to the heaeing Ramani said, “The next date when they will frame the charges against me is April 10. After that it will be my turn to tell my story. The truth is my defence.”

Union Minister of State of External Affairs MJ Akbar on October 15 had filed a defamation case against Journalist Priya Ramani who accused of him for sexual harassment. MJ Akbar was accused of sexual harassment by various women journalist in the ongoing #MeToo campaign during his tenure as Editor of various newspapers. Journalist Priya Ramani had alleged that Akbar during his tenure as an Editor of a newspaper made her feel uncomfortable and harassed her in a hotel room.
