PM Modi’s jibe at Renuka Chowdhury leads to Mahabharat in Rajyasabha

PM Modi taking a jibe at Chowdhery’s laugh said, “After Ramayan serial, we are lucky to get to hear such a laugh today.”

On Wednesday, the parliamentary budget session mostly remained stormy and possibly the most controversial one. Prime minister Narendra Modi yesterday addressed both the houses of parliament as a part of the discussion on ‘Motion of thanks’ to President Ram Nath Kovind. Speaking in Lok Sabha, PM Modi mounted several attacks on Congress which criticized the government of muzzling the voices of opposition.

The opposition however resorted to loud sloganeering. PM Modi speaking in Rajya Sabha said, “Congress-mukt Bharat is not BJP’s mission. It was proposed by Gandhiji.” “We are just following it. The seed of Aadhar was sowed here,” He added further. As he finished his statement a loud laugh of Congress MP Renuka Chowdhury echoed in the Rajya Sabha. The laughter was so loud that Chairman of the Rajya Sabha Venkaiah Naidu had to stop the proceeding for a moment.

Naidu asked Renuka Chowdhury, “What happened to you suddenly? If there is any problem, please go to a doctor.” He further added that such unruly behaviour doesn’t suit a member of parliament. However, PM Modi told Naidu to not stop Renuka Chowdhury from laughing. Modi took a jibe at Chowdhery’s laugh said, “After Ramayan serial, we are lucky to get to hear such a laugh today.”

The entire house was left in splits after PM Modi’s jibe. However, coming out of the Rajya Sabha Renuka Chowdhury targeted PM Modi and condemned the comment. She said, “PM has made a very personal comment. What else can you expect from him? I don’t want to stoop low by answering this. Such statements against any women are condemnable.”

Social media too is divided on the matter. While some are criticizing Renuka Chowdhury for her behaviour in parliament, while some are of the opinion that PM should not make such comments against women.

Congress demanded an apology from the Prime Minister on his statement. Congress MP’s staged protest in the parliament over the matter, after which the house was adjourned.
