Jalandhar: A police officer’s vehicle ran over two women. One women was died on the spot and another was injured. Police personnel driving the vehicle was arrested.
The Jalandhar Police has arrested the accused car driver in connection with the road accident. The accused has been identified as Amritpal Singh, an inspector rank official who is posted with 75 Battalion of Punjab Armed Police.
The speeding police vehicle crushed the two young women near Dhanowali on the Jalandhar-Phagwara highway.
The two women were standing on the roadside when the police vehicle ran them over. While one of them died on the spot, the other was rushed to the hospital and is currently undergoing treatment.
The deceased woman has been identified as Navjot Kaur, a resident of Dhanowali in Jalandhar. She used to work at a car showroom and on Monday morning, she was crossing the highway with her friend when the speeding car ran into them. Navjot died on the spot.
The victim’s family has now blocked the highway, causing massive traffic congestion in the area. The police are trying to pacify the protesters in order to remove them from the spot.
Meanwhile, ACP Balwinder Iqbal Singh Kahlo, who reached the spot, has said that he has found the CCTV footage that shows the accident.
