Pollachi : Gang accused of sexual assault of nearly 50 women arrested by police

Chennai | In February, a gang of four men, all in their 20s, were arrested for sexually molesting multiple women all across the state. However, recent confessions throw a light that the number of assaulted women are possibly around 50.

The police found images of 50 women in their mobile phones. “They would create fake female profiles on social media and use them to befriend other women and chat with them about lesbianism or other topics of sexual nature. They would later reveal the identities and force women to meet in person. They took videos of them being assaulted and molested, in moving vehicles, hotels or farmhouses”, the police revealed.

Most of the women refused to file complaints but come forward with their confessions.

The gang would later use these videos to blackmail them for sexual favours or money.“All of them are from a middle- class background and they claimed that they had sexually abused women after they agreed to come to the place they demanded,” said DSP Jeyaram.

One of the girls told the family about the incident, and her brother stepped up to the gang and asked them to delete the video. Instead, he was threatened too.

The AIADMK removed A Nagaraj, one of the accused in the second case of threatening the victim’s brother, from the party’s primary membership after his photo with an AIADMK minister was circulated on social media.

MK Stalin, DMK Leader, accused the ruling party AIADMK of protecting the accused.

“Even after the media brought this to light, and after Opposition parties — including the DMK — protested, why has no appropriate action been taken?” he said.
