President Kovind, PM Modi remembers former PM Jawaharlal Nehru on his birth anniversary

New Delhi | President Ramnath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday expressed their tribute to former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru on his 129th birth anniversary.

Independent India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru was born on 14 November 1889 in Uttar Pradesh’s Allahabad and remained prime minister till his death in 1964. The Indian government celebrated Nehru’s birthday as Children’s day.

“Remembering Shri Jawaharlal Nehru, our first Prime Minister, on his birth anniversary,” wrote President Ram Nath Kovind.

Expressing his homage, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote on his twitter handle,”Remembering our first Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru on his birth anniversary. We recall his contribution to our freedom struggle and during his tenure as Prime Minister.”

Congress President Rahul Gandhi said that the best way to remember former PM Nehru is by rededicating ourselves to Freedom, Democracy, Secularism & Socialism. He wrote,”On the birth anniversary of Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, the best way for us to honour him, is by rededicating ourselves to Freedom, Democracy, Secularism & Socialism. These were the core values he believed in and fought for. These are the core values that bind our nation together.”

A key figure in the Indian freedom struggle and post Independence development Jawaharlal Nehru was considered as the architect of the modern Indian nation-state: a sovereign, socialist, secular, and democratic republic.
