After today’s rally, the farmers have planned an all-India hunger strike on Monday when the demonstrators plan to hold protests at district offices.
New Delhi| As they pledge to intensify their agitation against three new farm laws, thousands of farmers protesting against the government’s controversial agricultural laws have planned a massive rally today to block the Delhi-Jaipur highway on Sunday.
After today’s rally, the farmers have planned an all-India hunger strike on Monday when the demonstrators plan to hold protests at district offices. Over 4,000 policemen on Saturday were deployed in Gurgaon and Haryana to stop the farmers from occupying highways.
PM Modi, amid the escalating protests, said on Saturday: “We’ve taking all these initiatives to increase the farmers’ income and make them more prosperous. Reforms will help draw investment in agriculture and benefit farmers.”
Farmers from Rajasthan and Haryana are expected to start their rally to the national capital via National Highway-48 (Delhi-Chennai highway).
However, Haryana Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala, in a surprising claim on Saturday, said a breakthrough in deadlock over controversial legislations is likely in the next 24 to 48 hours. “I’m hopeful that there will be talks between the centre and the farmers will be fruitful. I’m hopeful that in the next 24 to 48 hours, there will be a final round of talks and the two sides will reach a conclusive solution,” Mr Chautala was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.
