Rahul Gandhi Arrested On His Way To Hathras, Says He Was “Pushed On Ground, Lathi-Charged”

The Gandhis were going to Hathras to meet the family of the gangrape victim who passed away on Tuesday and whose body was allegedly cremated by the UP police in absence of her parents in a midnight drama.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who was marching towards Hathras with Priyanka Gandhi after their vehicles were stopped, said he was pushed to the ground and lathi-charged. The Gandhis were going to Hathras to meet the family of the gangrape victim who passed away on Tuesday and whose body was allegedly cremated by the UP police in absence of her parents in a midnight drama. With hundreds of supporters raising slogans, the Gandhis on the road after UP Police refused to let them continue their March. Rahul Gandhi was earlier seen insisting the police that he would “go alone” if there’s section 144 in place after UP police told him that large gatherings were banned under section 144.

“Just now police pushed me, lathicharged me and threw me to the ground. I want to ask, can only Modi Ji walk in this country? Can’t a normal person walk? Our vehicle was stopped, so we started walking,” Rahul Gandhi said, targeting the Prime Minister.

The UP administration, ahead of the leader’s visit, enforced a ban on large gatherings and put up barricades at the borders citing the coronavirus.

According to reports, Police personnel have been deployed in the victim’s village. Barricades have been erected on the main road outside the village so that no outsider can reach the victim’s house. The media is also not allowed to come to the village. ADM level officers are also posted at the entry point of the village.
