Rahul Gandhi paid tribute to former PM Rajiv Gandhi on his birth anniversary

New Delhi | Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Monday paid tribute to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his birth anniversary at Veer Bhumi in Delhi. Gandhi was accompanied by UPA chairman Sonia Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi and Robert Vadra.

Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh along with Congress leader Gulab Nabi Azad and Ashok Gehlot paid their homage to Rajiv Gandhi at Veer Bhumi. Former President Pranab Mukherjee and former Vice President Hamid Ansari pay their respects to the former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his birth anniversary.

Earlier remembering his father and former PM Rajiv Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi tweeted, “Rajiv Gandhi was a kind, gentle and affectionate man whose untimely death left a deep void in my life. I remember the times we had together and the many birthdays we were lucky to celebrate with him when he was alive. He is greatly missed, but his memory lives on.”


Prime Minister Narendra Modi also tweeted while remembering former PM Rajiv Gandhi. He wrote, “Tributes to our former Prime Minister Shri Rajiv Gandhi Ji on his birth anniversary. We remember his efforts towards the nation.”


Born on 20 August 1944, Rajiv Gandhi served as the sixth Prime Minister of India from 1984 to 1989. A 4-time Member of Parliament from Amethi, Gandhi took over as the Prime Minister post after Indira Gandhi was assassinated by her own bodyguard in 1984. August 20 is celebrated as ‘Sadbhavana Divas’ to pay respect towards the former PM.
