Amritsar| The farmers’ protests have rocked Punjab, Haryana and many other Indian states. The Farmers’ anger is spilling on the streets as several farmers’ union called for ‘Chakka Jaam’ or Blockade. In Punjab, the farmers also staged a ‘Rail Roko’ protest. On Friday, the protest duration that was supposed to be three days has been extended.
The Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee said that it is extending the ‘Rail Roko’ protest against the three contentious farm bills passed in the parliament amid opposition uproar. the committee told media persons that the three-day protest that was supposed to end on September 26 will now go on till September 29. On Thursday, as the “Rail Roko” protest began, farmers squatted on rail tracks registering their protest at Amritsar station. In view of the protest, Railways passing through the routes have been cancelled.
Farmers Go Shirtless:
SS Pandher, General Secretary of the Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee blamed Akali Dal for not taking a firm stand. He said, “Akali Dal is not taking an unequivocal stand. They’re trying to remain part of alliance & doing politics.” Some farmers who were sitting on the rail tracks went bare-chested in the sweltering heat. They shouted slogans against the Modi govt and demanded that the bill must be withdrawn.

RLD Workers Arrested:
Meanwhile, the farmers’ agitation against the bill continues. The All India Kisan Sangharsh Coordination Committee said that more than 265 farmers’ groups affiliated with it and 100 non-affiliated groups participated in the protest.

Seventy RLD workers and leaders, including its district president, were booked for holding a protest against new farm bills without permission from the administration, police said. RLD’s district president Ajit Rathi, party spokesman Abhishek Choudhry and former MLC Choudhry Mushtaq are among the 70 people who have been booked under Section 188 of the IPC, SHO DK Tyagi said.
Congress launches Campaign In Support of Farmers:
Congress has today launched a campaign expressing support to farmers’ agitation. Tweeting the video of ‘Speak up For Farmers’ campaign, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said, “Let us raise our voices together against the atrocities and exploitation on farmers by the Modi government.”
