Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Wednesday addressing reporters announced that as promised by Congress president Rahul Gandhi during the election campaign and manifesto, the Congress government in Rajasthan will waive of farm loans upto 2 lakhs takes before 30 November 2018. The announcement by CM Ashok Gehlot will add a burden of 18,000 crores on the state government.
Rahul Gandhi has been championing the cause of farm loan waivers though he recently said in a press conference that they were not permanent solutions to the farming crisis and technological advances in agriculture in consultation with farmers were needed. Addressing the press on Tuesday Gandhi has said, “We said our governments will waive loans in 10 days. In MP and Chhattisgarh, it has taken less than six hours.”
