Vellore| Nalini Sriharan, convicted of killing former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, attempted suicide on Monday night. According to her lawyer P Pugazhendi, She wants the prisoner whom she fought with to be shifted to another place as there is a misunderstanding between the two. She had an argument with the jailer last night on this issue. She then tried to kill herself by strangling herself with a cloth. The jail staff, however, intervened and stopped her.

6 guilty including Nalini’s husband in Rajiv murder case
Nalini is serving a life sentence in Vellore Jail in Tamil Nadu. She has been in jail for 28 years. Her daughter was also born in jail. Along with this, six other convicts of the Rajiv Gandhi murder case are also in jail. These include her husband Murugan.
Nalini’s death sentence was commuted to life imprisonment 20 years ago
Former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi was killed in an LTTE suicide attack on 21 May 1991 during an election rally in Sriperumbudur in Tamil Nadu. She was sentenced to death in this case, but the Tamil Nadu government changed her sentence to life imprisonment on 24 April 2000.
