India continues to record the highest daily cases across the world, however, the country has been able to maintain an impressive recovery rate.
A record daily jump of 90,632 coronavirus infections was reported in India in the last 24 hours, taking the total tally of infections beyond the 41-lakh mark, as the country inches closer to overtake Brazil as the second worst-hit country across the world by the pandemic. With 41,13,811 cases, India is now just 9,000 cases behind Brazil, which has reported 41,23,000 confirmed cases.
In the last 24 hours, India recorded 1,065 deaths linked to the virus, taking the total death toll due to the disease to 70, 626, the health ministry data showed this morning.
With a recovery rate of 77.32 per cent, about 31 lakh patients have recovered from the infection in the country.
The highest number of cases in the last 24 hours were reported in Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Uttar Pradesh. According to the Health Ministry, these five states account for over 62 per cent of the active cases.

It said that the country has witnessed a “steep exponential rise” in COVID-19 recoveries – from 50,000 in May to 30 lakh in September. Active COVID-19 cases in the country now stand at 8,62,320.
