“Reputed Journalists Circulating Fake News”: Pranab Mukherjee’s Son Irked After Rumours

After he underwent brain surgery at the Army Research and Referral Hospital in Delhi, Pranab Mukherjee has been on ventilator support.

On Thursday, two of the three children of former President Pranab Mukherjee dismissed the claims on social media about passing away of their father. After he underwent brain surgery at the Army Research and Referral Hospital in Delhi, Pranab Mukherjee has been on ventilator support. He was admitted there on Monday.

Pranab Mukherjee announced he tested positive for COVID-19 on the very day.

On Thursday morning, #ripPranabMukherjee was one of the top Twitter trends in India, with many social media users expressing grief over the leader’s death.

Abhijit Mukherjee, one of Pranab Mukherjee’s two sons, posted on twitter dismissing the news as “fake news”.

“My Father Shri Pranab Mukherjee is still alive & haemodynamically stable ! Speculations & fake news being circulated by reputed Journalists on social media clearly reflects that Media in India has become a factory of Fake News,” Abhijit said on Twitter.

Sharmishta Mukherjee, Pranab Mukherjee’s daughter, dismissed the claims and said, “Rumours about my father is false. Request, esp’ly to media, NOT to call me as I need to keep my phone free for any updates from the hospital…”

Earlier, on Aug 10, Pranab Mukherjee had tweeted, “On a visit to the hospital for a separate procedure, I have tested positive for COVID19 today. I request the people who came in contact with me in the last week, to please self isolate and get tested for COVID-19.”
