Right wing organisation assaults two Kashmiri vendors in Uttar Pradesh’s Lucknow; one arrested

Lucknow | Two Kashmiri dry fruit vendors were allegedly been assaulted by members of the right-wing organisation in Uttar Pradesh’s Lucknow on Wednesday.

As per the video surfaced on the internet, few men wearing orange kurtas were seen beating two Kashmiri dry fruit street vendors with a stick on the busy roads of Lucknow’s Daliganj area. In another video, the vendors is been seen slapped by one of the members. The vendors laters rescued themselves through intervention by the locals who later called the police.

Responding to the incident SSP Kalanidhi Naithani informed that one of the accused is been arrested in the case. He said,” A man was seen in a viral video thrashing a Kashmiri street vendor in Lucknow, the vendor was later saved by locals. The culprit Bajrang Sonkar has been arrested by Police. Sonkar has criminal background and has 12 cases including a murder case against him.”

The attack on the Kashmiri vendors have come just two weeks after the Supreme Court issued a notice to Central and 10 state government in a petition seeking steps to prevent attacks on Kashmiri students. The Top court has also asked the Nodal Officers to take steps to prevent acts of intimidation, threat, assault, social boycott etc. The bench also asked the Union Ministry of Home Affairs to give wide publicity to nodal officers so that they can be approached by those facing such incidents.
