Srinagar: Meghayala Governor Satyapal Malik said that during his regime as the governor of Jammu and Kashmir no terrorist could enter within the 50-100 kms range of Srinagar.
“During my tenure as Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, no terrorists could enter within the 50-100 kms range of Srinagar. But now, terrorists are killing poor people in Srinagar. This is really saddening,” said Satya Pal Malik, as quoted by ANI.
Malik served as the governor of Jammu and Kashmir from August 2018 to October 2019, and it was during his tenure that Article 370 was abrogated. He is now the governor of Meghalaya.
His remarks came against the backdrop of the gruesome killings of two migrant workers in Kulgam. The United Liberation Front, affiliated with proscribed terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba, claimed responsibility for the attack.
Recently two non Kashmiri hawkers were shot dead in Kashmir which was a part of targeted killings which is happening since last week. Before this incident a taecher and a Principal were also killed point blank.
Several cases of Targeted killings have been registered and most victim are from the minority community. Last week six people were shot dead in targeted killings. So far this month, 11 people have lost their lives in shootings targeting civilians. The terror attacks have drawn strong condemnation from political parties across the spectrum.
NPP chairman and former minister Harsh Dev Singh had blamed the BJP government for the fast deteriorating security scenario in Jammu and Kashmir. He said while the killings of innocents in J&K is being used by the BJP leadership as a mere occasion to “condemn Pakistan and promote communal hatred”, it has “utterly failed” in fulfilling its promises of restoring peace and normalcy in the troubled territory.
Amid the civilian killings, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha had on Sunday vowed to avenge every drop of their blood by hunting down terrorists and their sympathisers.
Security forces have launched a massive crackdown against “anti-social elements” in the Valley and detained around 700 people for questioning.
