Second Phase Of Voting In Bihar Today, 1,463 Candidates To Fight For 94 Seats

The political future of 1,463 candidates will be decided by over 2.85 crore voters. 1,316 men, 146 women and one transgender candidate are there in the fray.

All arrangements have been put in place for the second phase of assembly elections. High profile constituencies like Patna, Vaishali, Sitamarhi, Darbhanga and Madhubani spread over 17 districts will go to polls in this phase today. The political future of 1,463 candidates will be decided by over 2.85 crore voters. 1,316 men, 146 women and one transgender candidate are there in the fray.

As per the poll panel data, of the total 2,85,50,285 voters 1,50,33,034 are male, 1,35,16,271 female and 980 transgender. Polling will begin from 7 am and will continue till 6 pm. Polling will be upto 4 pm in eight Naxal-affected constituencies including Raghopur, Paru, Minapur and Alauli, Chief Electoral Officer HR Srinivasa said. Security forces have been deployed in Naxal-infested areas to ensure trouble free polling.

The Election Commission said it has set up a total of 41,362 booths at 18,823 polling stations.

The election commission has also set up standard operating procedures for the voting in the wake of covid-19.

BJP is contesting on 45 seats, JD(U) 43 and Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) six seats in this phase. While RJD is contesting 56 seats, Congress has fielded 24 candidates. LJP has fielded 52 candidates, RLSP 36, BSP 33 and NCP 29 candidates. The CPI and CPM, which joined the Grand Alliance recently, are fighting four seats each.
