Security tightened in Haryana ahead of verdict on Ram Rahim in journalist murder case

Rohtak | Ahead on the judgment in the journalist Ram Chander Chhatrapati murder case against Dera Sacha Sauda chief Ram Rahim, the security arrangements have been tightened in various parts of Haryana.

Ram Rahim is accused of ordering his followers to kill Ram Chander Chhatrapati after his newspaper published an anonymous letter narrating how Singh sexually harassed women at the Dera headquarters in Sirsa. The Sirsa based journalist was shot outside his residence in October 2002. The case against Ram Rahim and his followers was registered in 2003 and was later handed over to CBI in 2006. Earlier on Tuesday, the special CBI court had accepted the state governments plea allowing Ram Rahim to appear before the court via video conferencing.

Speaking on the security arrangements Sandeep Khirwar, IG Rohtak Range said,” We have 2-tier security around the jail, 500 police personnel and aerial drones have also been deployed, we’ll not allow any gatherings. I would request all the people to keep calm; we’ll ensure that no trouble is caused to people.” The administration has also deployed 500 police personnel around the court premises along with heavy barricading at various places.

Rah Rahim is currently serving 20 years prison for raping two of his followers in the Rohtak’s Sunaria jail. The Dera chief is also accused in the murder case of former Dera manager Ranjit Singh.
