Shivakumara Swami, head of Sree Siddaganga Mutt passes away at 111

The head of Sree Siddaganga Mutt, Shivakumara Swami, in Tumakuru of Karnataka passed away today at the age 111 after being on the ventilator for two weeks.

Dr. Shivakumar Swami had taken ill for quite some time and was being treated in Chennai before being brought back to the Mutt where he was put on life support.

Senior political leaders that included B S Yeddyurappa, the former chief minister of Karnataka have expressed their remorse.

Security arrangements have been put in place as hundreds of devotees will travel to the Mutt in the hope of getting a glimpse of the spiritual leader.

Shivakumara Swami was known to be one of the most revered social and religious practitioners of the Lingayat-Veerashaiva faith of Lingayatism.

He was being treated for a lung infection which he was infected with after post operation in December last year.
