Sidhu’s Meeting With Channi Goes Well, Sidhu Likely To Stay Back

Chandigarh : Meeting between Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi and Navjot Singh Sidhu is over. The meeting went well and sources say Navjot Singh Sidhu likely to remain the Punjab Congress Committee chief.

Mohammad Mustafa, adviser to Navjot Sidhu, told in media that the “issue will be resolved soon”. Sidhu’s aide had hinted in the morning that Sidhu will stay back. He said, “Sidhu will stay Punjab Congress chief and lead the Congress in next year’s election.”

MLA Gurdeep, who was part of the meeting said that Sidhu will continue in the post. Two flower bouquets were seen being sent inside Chandigarh’s Punjab Bhawan where the high-stakes parley was being held. The Punjab cabinet will meet on October 4, sources said.

Sidhu had posted on twitter that CM Channi has invited him for a meeting. He tweeted, “Chief Minister has invited me for talks … will reciprocate by reaching Punjab Bhawan, Chandigarh at 3:00 PM today, he is welcome for any discussions !”

According to sources, during the meet Sidhu and Channi resolved all their differences. After the resolution Sidhu decided to stay back on his post with Congress.

“The Congress leadership understands Navjot Sidhu and Sidhu is not beyond the Congress leadership. He is not Amarinder Singh, who never cared for the Congress and its leadership,” Mustafa said.

According to him, Sidhu “acts emotionally at times” and the Congress leadership understands.

The Punjab unit of the Congress is in turmoil after Amarinder Singh was removed as chief minister and its chief Sidhu resigned from his post ahead of the crucial assembly elections in the state early next year. Factionalism in Punjab Congress has come to the fore over recent appointments of the new cabinet and other top officials.
