Earlier today, Rahul had expressed his gratitude to “thousands of men and women” who gave in their contribution for the cause of the violent acts against the girls and women and stated their fight for justice would not go empty.
Congress President Rahul Gandhi today came down heavily on Prime Minister Modi concerning his deafening silence on violence and abuse done against children and women in the nation, terming it to be “unacceptable” and said the country is waiting for him to speak up.
Rahul Gandhi’s comments have come a day after he conducted a midnight march to India Gate in New Delhi for protesting the Unnao and Kathua minor rape cases and stated that it was time for the prime minister to put ‘beti bachao’ (save the girl child) in action.
Addressing PM Modi directly today on Friday on Twitter, Rahul also asked why the rapists that are accused and murderers were being “protected” by the state. He asked:
“Mr Prime Minister, your silence is unacceptable.
“1. What do YOU think about the growing violence against women and children?
“2. Why are accused rapists and murderers protected by the state?
“India is waiting,” Gandhi tweeted, using the hashtag “SpeakUp”.

In Kathua, Asifa’s body was recovered from the forest of Rassana on 17 January, a week after she went missing while grazing the horses in the spot. The state government has handed the case of the eight-year-old, over to the crime branch, following statewide protests.
All the accused, that include the mastermind Sanji Ramthe, his son Vishal, two Special Police Officers Deepak Khajuria and Surender Verma, sub-inspector Anand Dutta, head constable Tilak Raj and civilian Parvesh Kumar, were booked under the Sections 302 (murder), 376 (rape) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of Ranbir Penal Code.
Whereas in Unnao a teen had alleged that she was raped by Kuldeep Singh Sengar, the BJP legislator, who was today detained by the CBI for probing. The teen had alleged that she was raped by the MLA at his home on 4 June 2017 where she had gone seeking a job. She also alleged that after lodging an FIR, she started receiving death threats from the politician. However, she said that despite lodging an FIR no action has been taken by the police so far. After that, the victim and her father also had tried to self-immolate outside the UP CM Yogi Adityanath’s office.
